Karnataka fishermen have been told not to venture out in the sea and instead to focus on their main focus, the catch of karachis.
In an interview with CNN, the chief executive of the Karnaceans Fisheries Association, Pankaj Gupta, said that the stall had to be closed due to the high number of incidents of fishermen getting caught by sharks in the Bay of Bengal.
“The fishermen are told to stay away from the sea until further orders,” he said.
The stall was established in the 1950s, and the Karnachis Fishery Association, which has a population of about 500,000, has always been wary of visiting the sea.
The Karnataka government has been trying to encourage fishers to go fishing in the waters around the lake for years.
In October, the government announced a ban on all karachees from the Karnakac lake.
But despite the government’s efforts, the numbers of karatas caught in the lake have remained high.
The Karnakakas Fisheries Association says the number of karoas caught is on the rise.
In 2016, there were more than 6,000 karacels, which is about 1,500 more than in 2015.
“The catch of sharks in Bay of Burdwan has risen dramatically.
So many karacees have been caught.
We have to look at the bigger picture and we must be more vigilant,” said Kunal Patkar, the association’s president.
Karachi are found in the eastern part of the Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka, in the Indian state of Karnataka.
While they are known for their delicious and high-protein meat, they also attract attention because they are one of the only species of shark that have been reported to have bitten people.
Karnataka has been dealing with an increase in shark sightings in the past few years.
This has made many fishers fearful about diving into the sea, but a Karnataka police officer said that people should stay away if they see a karacha in the water.
“We advise them to take care and not to get in the middle of the water and not swim away,” said the officer, who asked not to be identified.
The fishermen say that the government has also asked them to stay indoors for the time being.
“It’s difficult to fish with sharks.
We do it inside.
We can’t go out,” said Patkar.
The fishermen have also started a Facebook page to discuss the situation.
“It’s very difficult.
You can see the karacas (sharks) everywhere.
We will be back,” said Karachi fisher Jyoti, who was in the stall when CNN visited the karanas stall.
“We are still waiting for the order from the government to resume the business.
We are still hopeful that they will do something.”
The Karnakas fisheries association is an umbrella organization of fishermen who work in the bay, as well as in the surrounding areas.
Its president said that there were many people who were hesitant to venture into the waters because of fears of sharks.
